Project Description
The objective of the project is to enhance the skills and knowledge of farmers and small and medium enterprises in Viqueque Municipality in agroforestry, focusing on the coconut value chain, to process by-products, improve productivity, quality, and market access. This project is funded under the EU Agroforestry Skills Programme implemented by ILO Office in Timor-Leste. The project will be implemented from 1 August 2024 – 31 July 2026 in 6 villages (Bahalara Uain, Bibileo, Uma Quic, Uma Uain Craic, Nahareca, Ossorua) in Viqueque Municipality.
Position's Objective
Trainer for Coconut Processing is responsible for the planning, implementation and monitoring of the coconut by-products processing training and small business development in 6 cooperatives in Viqueque Municipality.
Job Description
Project Planning and Preparation
- Develop annual detailed implementation plan, monthly and weekly plan.
- Coordinate with the Cooperative Managers and management structure on the planning and implementation of the Coconut By-Product Training and business development.
- Provide support in the identification and selection of the co-trainers in the cooperatives.
- With the co-trainers conduct mapping the beneficiaries in his/her locations.
- Identify circular business opportunities among the target beneficiaries in his/her locations, which shall include production of feedstock and organic fertilizer.
- Conduct a needs assessment to identify the specific training needs and gaps in knowledge and skills of the target beneficiaries that already produce coconut byproducts
- Actively participate in the training of trainers with experts in processing by products of coconut, in close consultation with the ILO.
Project Implementation
- Establish selection procedures and advertise for training
- Organize and facilitate training sessions for farmers and small entrepreneurs, covering topics such as coconut cultivation, pest and disease management, post-harvest handling, processing by products of coconut, basic business training and financial literacy and marketing.
- In cooperation with the cooperative management structure and the co-trainers, conduct local market mapping for coconut by-products at municipal and national level.
- Conduct training and facilitate the development of the cooperative's business plan on coconut by-products businesses.
- Install, utilize, and maintain equipment for collective processing of coconut by products.
- Facilitate local market access for coconut by-products and other products resulted from the training.
- Organize trial production in community target groups, coaching and mentorship programmes
- Work collaboratively with SHAPE's Value-Adding Facilitator and Field Facilitators to mentor the cooperatives to improve quality, and quantity, to respond to market demand.
Project M&E and Reporting
- Conduct monitoring and evaluation of the training program to assess its impact and effectiveness in improving the participants' skills and practices
- Collect, update and report comment and feedback from project stakeholders.
- Submit field trip report and monitoring report
- Collect quantitative and qualitative data according to ADRA TL's M&E system.
- Submit monthly impact stories and photos.
Education, Experience and Skills
- Diploma in agriculture, agriculture technology, vocational school or relevant topic
- Minimum 3 years of experience in training, agribusiness development, and processing.
- Strong technical skills in small business management and training delivery.
- Strong interpersonal skills and teamwork
- Good systematic thinking and problem solving
- Ability to learn quickly and test new initiatives.
- Good computer skills, especially Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Can drive a motorcycle and have a valid driver's license (SIM), and ability to travel in rural roads.
- Have good communication verbal and writing with Tetum. Ability in local languages like Tetum Terik, Makasae, Nauete, Midici or Cairui are desirable.
