Position Overview
- Title: Senior Agricultural Systems Specialist
- Location: Timor-Leste (in-country, with field engagement)
- Level of Effort: 30–40 days (flexible, output-based)
- Duration: May – October 2026
Purpose of the Role
The consultant will anchor the agricultural components, ensuring that all agricultural analysis, spatial modelling, and planning outputs are credible, climate-informed, context-specific, and implementable at both watershed and Suco levels.
Key Responsibilities
The Senior Agricultural Systems Specialist will:
- Lead agricultural sector analysis for climate risk screening and contextual assessments
- Guide agricultural suitability and spatial analysis in collaboration with GIS and climate specialists
- Support field validation and participatory land use planning processes
- Strengthen the design and prioritisation of practical, climate-resilient agricultural interventions
- Provide hands-on technical support to strengthen national and local capacity
Key Deliverables
- Inputs to agricultural contextual analysis and stakeholder mapping
- Technical parameters and rationale for agricultural suitability criteria
- Contributions to validation methodologies and field tools
- Agricultural sections and intervention design inputs to reports
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Extensive experience with agricultural systems in Timor-Leste, Agro Ecological Background or similar contexts
- Strong understanding of smallholder farming systems, soil constraints, and crop production
- Proven ability to link agricultural analysis with planning and development programming
- Experience working with government counterparts and local stakeholders
- Strong capacity to translate technical analysis into practical, field-ready recommendations
