The school, with support from donor/NGO funding, intends to renovate two existing school buildings to improve safety, functionality, and learning conditions. The project is funded by the New Zealand High Commission/Embassy Fund (HEF) for Timor-Leste, a discretionary fund managed by the New Zealand Embassy in Dili. The HEF supports short-term, community-based projects in Timor-Leste that align with New Zealand's International Development Cooperation goals.
The Fund enables Posts to support small scale, short-term tangible and measurable community-based projects which support the Post's diplomatic objectives, meet development needs, and align with the New Zealand International Development Cooperation Programme, ensuring that our development assistance: contributes to a more peaceful world, in which all people live in dignity and safety, all countries can prosper, and our shared environment is protected.
Key Areas of Support: Community-based development initiatives, and Local disaster preparedness.
Overall Goal: To improve learning outcomes for junior secondary school students in Bobonaro Municipality, Timor-Leste. At Central Basic School Vila 7 de Setembro in Balibo Vila, two blocks with 4 classrooms are in a deteriorated condition, affecting the safety and focus of students and teachers. This project seeks to improve learning outcomes by creating a safe, functional, and protected learning environment through the rehabilitation of these classrooms. The initiative supports national efforts to strengthen the quality of basic education infrastructure in rural areas.
