DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

Under the overall guidance of WHO Representative (WR) and direct supervision of the Administrative Officer (AO), the incumbent performs the following duties:

  1. Provide reliable and secure driving services by:
  • driving office vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel, including for field visits, and the delivery and collection of mail, documents and other items;
  • meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport and facilitating immigration and customs formalities, as required;
  • Checking for availability of all the required documents/supplies for the assigned vehicle, including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, first aid kit and necessary spare parts;
  • Taking appropriate precautions for the safety of the vehicle and its contents when left unattended;
  • Logging official trips, daily mileage, gas/electricity consumption. 
  1. Undertake day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through timely minor repairs, oil changes, checking oil, water, tyres, battery and brakes etc., car washing.
  2. Ensure major technical issues are reported to the supervisor and make arrangements for major repairs.
  3. Follows established rules and regulations for driving and deliveries and/or in cases of an accident, ensures that all rules and regulations and local requirements are adhered and reported immediately to the supervisor on any apparent problems to seek instructions.
  4. Perform messenger duties such as handling deliveries, photocopying, collecting and loading/unloading mail, documents and goods or supplies.
  5. Perform other relevant duties as assigned by the supervisor.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: Secondary, technical, or commercial school and a valid driving license.
Desirable: Basic mechanics' certificate and first aid training.

Experience

Essential: Minimum one (1) year of work experience as a driver with a safe driving record.
Desirable: Experience in driving within WHO or another United Nations agency would be an asset.

Local traffic regulations and topography of the country Protocol and organizational security standards for drivers Basic mechanical knowledge and skills in operatingand maintaining different types of vehiclesAbility to interact positively and tactfully with diverse clients Ability to write official reports of incidents, read and understand instructions in the working languageAbility to read instructions and maps.

Use of Language Skills

Essential: Beginner's knowledge of English. Expert knowledge of Tetum.
Desirable: Beginner's knowledge of Portuguese.

REMUNERATION

WHO offers staff in the General Services category an attractive remuneration package, which for the above position includes an annual net base salary starting at USD 5,990 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable) and 30 days of annual leave.
