Individual Consultant for Communication

Background

The MACP-Blue Project supports marine conservation and awareness in Timor-Leste, with a focus on important marine and coastal areas and charismatic species such as dugongs, whale sharks, and manta rays.

The project has been supporting marine surveys in Lautem, Liquiça, and Bobonaro using drone-based surveys and citizen science programs. These activities have helped document important sightings of the charismatic marine species of Timor-Leste and key information within the migration path. It will also provide useful information for conservation planning and proposed marine parks in Timor-Leste.

To showcase these achievements, a Communication Consultant is needed to organize the project's extensive collection of photos, videos, and field materials into professional products, including a video, pamphlet, and booklet. As part of this role, the consultant will also visit project sites to conduct interviews with government officials, meet coastal communities, and other key stakeholders to capture firsthand perspectives on the project outcomes.

Scope of Work

  • Review all existing video footage, photos, audio recordings, interview transcripts, and project documents provided by CI Timor-Leste
  • Develop a clear storyline, script, narration plan, and creative concept for a video highlighting MACP activities and charismatic species
  • Travel to project sites and meet with stakeholders to conduct interviews and capture success stories for the final video productions
  • Design informational factsheet (1), pamphlet (4), booklets (3) and banners (3) about charismatic species, using visually engaging layouts for local communities and stakeholders
  • Ensure all communication products strictly follow the branding and visibility guidelines of CI Timor-Leste, MACP project donors
  • Create a simple T-shirt, Stickers, Caps design concept and production specification for project visibility events

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: Degree or professional training in communications, media production, journalism, graphic design, environmental communication, or related field
  • Minimum Five (5) years of relevant professional experience in video production, communication materials development, storytelling, and design
  • Demonstrated experience producing communication products for conservation, biodiversity, community development, or donor-funded projects
  • Strong skills in video editing, script writing, visual storytelling, layout design, and preparation of print-ready files
  • Strong working skills in Tetum and English
