Consultant - Developing Feminism and Activism Booklet and Training Module

Background

Power Up aims to empower individuals in organizations through education and training in feminism and activism, to address gender-based violence and enhance freedom of expression. Power Up has collected materials that encompass various aspects of feminism, activism, SOGIESC and women with disabilities. These materials will serve as the foundation for the development of a comprehensive module and booklet that will be used for training purposes.

Summary of Assignment

This consultancy's objective is to utilize the collected materials and develop a cohesive booklet in Tetum that includes educative material on feminism and activism.  Secondly, to produce a module that will be used by civil society organizations and feminist organizations to facilitate “feminism and activism” training in Tetum. Both in a timeframe of no more than four months.

Responsibilities

  • Review and analyse the provided materials, as well as articles, research papers, case studies, and relevant literature on feminism and activism in Timor-Leste.
  • Organize the materials into structured sections and chapters that flow logically and comprehensively cover the subject matter.
  • Develop engaging and informative content that explains key concepts, theories, and methodologies related to feminism and activism.
  • Ensure the content is inclusive, culturally sensitive, and accessible to a diverse audience.
  • Incorporate interactive elements such as discussion questions, activities, and practical exercises to enhance learning and engagement.
  • Provide clear and concise instructions for trainers or facilitators on how to effectively use the module and booklet during training sessions.
  • Collaborate with the project team to incorporate feedback and revisions as necessary to finalize the module and booklet.

Requirements

  • Proven experience and expertise in feminist theory, activism, gender studies, or related fields.
  • Strong writing and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts in a clear and accessible manner.
  • Experience in curriculum development, educational material design, or similar projects is preferred.
  • Familiarity with issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion, particularly within the context of feminism and activism.
  • Ability to work efficiently and meet tight deadlines without compromising quality.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all materials and information provided during the project.
  • Familiarity with the Timor-Leste context is preferred.
  • Fluent in Tetum is preferred

Deliverables

  • A draft version of the Tetum and English “feminism and activism material module within 1.5 months of contract commencement
  • A draft of the booklet within two months of contract commencement. 
  • A finalized version of the booklet incorporating feedback and revisions within two months of the draft being incorporated.  
  • A finalized version of the module within two weeks of incorporating feedback.  

Budget

The consultant will be compensated based on a mutually agreed-upon fee, which will be determined based on the scope of work and the consultant's qualifications. 

Communication

The consultant will liaise with the project coordinator and designated team members for the duration of the project. Regular check-ins and updates will be scheduled as needed to ensure smooth progress and address any concerns or questions that may arise.
