5 Positions for Biodiversity Conservation Project

Biodiversity Conservation Specialist

Will design and implement comprehensive biodiversity conservation strategies tailored to Timor-Leste's unique marine and coastal ecosystems, including facilitation of the development and execution of management plans for Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). They will collaborate with fisheries experts to implement sustainable fishing practices within and around marine protected areas, ensuring alignment with national and international conservation goals. They will facilitate and support scientific research within marine protected areas to inform management decisions and conservation strategies.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ Years experience in marine biodiversity conservation
  • Strong analytical skills for monitoring and managing marine ecosystems and protected areas
  • Experience in community-based conservation initiatives specific to Timorese coastal communities.

Climate Resilience Specialist

will develop and implement climate resilience strategies for Timor-Leste's coastal communities and marine ecosystems, and facilitate vulnerability assessments and adaptation planning to address climate change impacts on marine biodiversity, coastal livelihoods, and community resilience, including food security. They will collaborate with local communities, government agencies, and NGOs to integrate climate resilience into existing conservation and development programs.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ Years experience supporting government and community resilience and adaptation efforts, including food security
  • Proven track record of assessing climate risks and developing and implementing climate adaptation strategies
  • Technical expertise on climate change adaptation strategies specific to Timor-Leste's marine environment.

Livelihoods Specialist

will develop and implement strategies to support livelihood opportunities that are consistent with biodiversity conservation objectives, including eco-tourism. They will engage with communities, government, and private sector to facilitate business planning, incentive programs, and capacity building for sustainable livelihoods.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years experience supporting alternative livelihoods programs, including eco-tourism
  • Demonstrated ability to development partnerships with diverse stakeholder groups, including coastal communities, local businesses, and national and local governments
  • Experience with marketing and business planning

Sustainable Fisheries Specialist

will engage with communities, government, and private sector to develop and implement fisheries strategies that support sustainable and resilient livelihoods and sound management of marine resources. They will advise on fisheries monitoring and data collection approaches and support multistakeholder management efforts. They will also assess and develop post-harvest loss reduction and value add activities and associated linkage with private sector. They will develop and implement capacity-building programs for local fisheries officers and community leaders on sustainable fisheries management techniques.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in designing and implementing fisheries management programs
  • Ability to design and implement fisheries monitoring programs using both traditional and innovative technologies.
  • Demonstrated experience with ecosystem-based fisheries management approaches.

Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Specialist

will develop a comprehensive monitoring, evaluation, and learning system focused on biodiversity conservation, natural resource management, climate resilience, food security, livelihoods, and sustainable fisheries in Timor-Leste. They will design and oversee surveys and data collection efforts, track and regularly report on Activity indicator progress, and advise Activity leadership on data-driven decision making.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of monitoring, evaluation, and learning experience on donor-funded projects
  • Experience collaborating with local communities, government agencies, and NGOs to gather data and share findings.
  • Ability to train local staff and partners on monitoring, evaluation, and learning methodologies and best practices in data collection and analysis.
