The Translator shall undertake the following tasks: • Thoroughly review the NFCS document in English to understand its content, context, and technical terminology. • Develop a detailed translation plan outlining the approach, timelines, and resources required for the translation process. • Translate the NFCS document into Portuguese, ensuring linguistic accuracy, coherence, and consistency. • Pay close attention to technical terms related to meteorology, climate science, and services, ensuring accurate translation and consistency with existing Portuguese terminologies used in Timor-Leste. • Conduct necessary research and consult relevant sources to ensure accurate translation of specialized terminology and concepts. • Provide a glossary of translated technical terms for reference and consistency. • Ensure cultural appropriateness and sensitivity in the translation, considering the target audience in Timor-Leste. • Incorporate feedback and revisions as necessary based on stakeholder review. • Collaborate closely with designated focal points from Timor-Leste government departments and RIMES. • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all information and materials accessed during the assignment.
Education: • Bachelor's degree in English language or related field is required. Experience: • At least 3 years of practical experience as a translator/interpreter of English to Portuguese and vice versa. • Familiarity with technical jargon, development terminology/acronyms, and prior experience translating policy documents is advantageous. • In-depth understanding of climate science and related terminology. • Experience translating technical documents, preferably in climate change or related sectors. • Familiarity with Timor-Leste's context, culture, and language nuances. Skills and Abilities: • Excellent critical thinking, problem-solving, and planning skills. • Strong project coordination skills and the ability to support other relevant tasks as needed. • Ability to work harmoniously in a multicultural and multidisciplinary work environment. Language: Proficiency in both English, Tetum, and Portuguese is required (both oral and written). Personal qualities: • Self-motivated, flexible, and capable of working effectively and independently. • Excellent work ethic and an aptitude for working with a constructive attitude. • Conscientious and efficient in meeting commitments, observing deadlines, and achieving results. • Adaptability and a willingness to learn new technologies and tools. • Demonstrates persistence when faced with difficulties or challenges.
