Senior Health and Gender Officer

The Role

This position will provide support to all technical teams to implement the community health training session through the VSLA Group on the subjects: Prevention of stunting; Nutrition and Economics at home; Importance of Hygiene based on Behavior and Social Change Strategy (SBC). This session may involve Community Health Promoters (PSCs) or local organizations such as co-facilitators and involve local authorities as well as other community members in health and nutrition issues, as well as water with sanitation, child protection and violence against women and children.

A Senior Health and Gender Officer typically leads the integration of gender perspectives into health programs and field implementation. This role involves developing and implementing health and gender strategies, providing technical guidance, and ensuring that health initiatives address the unique needs of diverse communities. They also play a crucial role in monitoring and evaluating the gender impact of health programs and advocating for gender equality within the health sector.

The position is supervised by the AtPro Program Manager based in Dili. The Senior Health and Gender Officer will receive technical guidance from the AtPro Program Manager (Dili) and CARE GPQ unit to ensure the program is aligned with the program outcome. During weeks, schools have classes, the regular work schedule will include Saturdays to cover activities at the schools.

Selection Criteria

  • Minimum bachelor's degree in social science, gender studies or equivalent with minimum 3 years' relevant work experience, and/or University Diploma with minimum 4 years' relevant work experience
  • Experience working in health and gender mainstreaming programs and experience working in schools and advantages
  • Experience providing training or coaching, leading teams and directly supervising other staff
  • Experience in facilitation required and experience with social accountability tools are an advantage
  • Ability to promote collaboration with CARE staff, Government, Local authority, and other partners
  • Excellent communication skills in Tetum and intermediate (very good) in English
  • The ability to communicate in one or more of the local languages (s) such as Mambae or Kemak, is an advantage
  • Demonstrated strong leadership, decision making, problem solving and planning
  • Demonstrated ability to take direction and to work as part of a team
  • A willingness to implement CARE's gender transformative approach in all activities
  • Intermediate (very good) in Microsoft Office with knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, good numerical skills
  • An advantage to driving a motorbike in a remote location and with a valid license an advantage
