English/Tetum/Portuguese Interpreter and Translator

Job Overview

The Defence Cooperation Program in Timor-Leste (DCP-TL) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced person to fill the position as an English/Tetum/Portuguese Interpreter and Translator. The successful candidate will work with Australian Military Advisors and be able to travel to Hera, Metinaro, Baucau, and municipalities when required.

About DCP-TL

The Defence Cooperation Program in Timor-Leste (DCP-TL) is an Australian Defence Program that:

  • Promotes the capacity of the F-FDTL
  • Improves Australia's capacity to work with F-FDTL in response to common security challenges
  • Builds strong people-to-people links with F-FDTL at tactical, operational, and strategic levels
  • Maximizes Australia's security

Selection Criteria

  • Sufficient experience and ability to interpret and translate documents from English to Tetum and Portuguese, and vice versa
  • General knowledge about F-FDTL and Naval Component in particular
  • Strong self-confidence in providing interpretation in formal meetings
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and under pressure
  • Proactive, flexible, and understanding of both Australian and Timorese culture

Qualifications and Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications
  • Excellent written and spoken English, Tetum, and Portuguese
  • Demonstrated competence with Microsoft Office computer applications

Salary and Contract

Salary: USD$ 1,378 per month
Status: Long Term Contract
